Confession: I love pretty much any sort of pastry, especially when served with a good cup of coffee or a latte. If you are looking for something special (but not too fussy) to serve to your family/guests, give these a try!
Ingredients:
2 c flour
¼ c sugar
2 ½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
½ c diced/grated butter (cold)
½ c milk
1 egg
1 tsp lemon zest
¾ c blueberries
Topping: 1 TBSP butter and 1 TBSP sugar
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425°F. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg; mix well. Cut in the butter until the mixture s coarse and crumbly. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, and zest; mix well, then fold the wet mixture into the dry mixture. Mix with a fork until a soft dough forms; gently add in the blueberries. Pat dough into a ball and gently knead 8-10 times on a lightly-floured surface. Place dough on a buttered stone/bakingsheet and gently pat into a 9” disc (~1/2 inch thick). Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
