I am helping a friend out in a few weeks by preparing food for her upcoming wedding reception. One of the items on the menu is salad. For a variety of reasons, I typically make my own salad dressings but had never made French dressing before, which is one of the dressings requested for the meal. I consulted my mother-in-law for the recipe she has made for years (decades?), followed her adjustments and made a few other tweaks from the original (for example, substituting honey for the sugar) and I am pleased with the results. With warmer-weather months upon us, I am sure to make this again! I hope if you try it, you will enjoy it also. Ingredients
- 1/2 c canola oil
- 1/4 c olive oil
- 1/2 c ketchup (could substitute chili sauce)
- 1/2 c honey
- 1/3 c apple cider vinegar
- 1-2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 3/4 tsp celery seed
- 3/4 tsp kosher salt
- scant 1/2 tsp onion powder
- few cranks of freshly ground black pepper
DirectionsCombine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and use an immersion blender to fully combine. If needed, use a fork to incorporate the oil (Note: If you do not have an immersion blender, combine all ingredients in a regular blender). Transfer to a different container (if desired), cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours before enjoying on your salad.
