How-To: All Purpose Meat Rub

We make a fair amount of Pork BBQ around here and after brining the meat, I like to season it with a generous amount of this spice rub before placing it on the smoker.  I recently used this same rub on chicken and it was GREAT!  The beauty of any recipe is that you can tailor it to your liking, so add in or take out anything that you wish!  With the 4th of July coming up, this would be tasty on pork chops, steaks, chicken, etc.  Enjoy!  June 24, 2015

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 c salt (we like to use Redman's Sea Salt but regular salt will work just fine too)
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/4 c brown sugar
  • 1/8 c paprika
  • 2 TBSP chili powder
  • 2 TBSP onion powder
  • 2 TBSP garlic powder
  • 1 TBSP black pepper
  • 1 TBSP cumin
  • 1 tsp ginger

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
  2. Store in an air-tight container.
  3. When you are ready to use it, add the desired amount to the meat and rub it in with your hands.  If you decide to add more, be sure to use a spoon or wash your hands thoroughly first so that you do not cross-contaminate between the raw meat and the remaining spice mixture in the container.

Note: I typically make a double batch, so that I have an ample amount on hand.
